There are many businesses who are banning the high-tech wearable device Google Glass. One theater owner in Columbus called an unnamed homeland security agents to remove a Balkan programmer who was wearing Google Glass which was connected to his prescription lenses. An interrogation took place for an hour with the programmer by the agents and mall police.
Programmer said not to reveal his name as “he is trying to limit the ‘celebrity,’” he said. Programmer said that he has special prescription lenses inserted into his device and he wears those lenses almost all the time. He is a immigrant and he is working towards citizenship.
According to the report which was released in Columbus Dispatch by reporter Allison Manning, it was said that the 35-year-old person (programmer) was wearing Goggle Glass was watching Jack Ryan. At that time someone with a badge sat down next to him and asked him to come outside. When he went to the lobby, he met by additional agents who questioned him for hours. It was not until they brought in a laptop and USB cable to connect the Glass to a PC that they were finally convinced that he was not recording the movie.

Programmer said that, “about an hour into the movie, a guy came near my seat, shoves a badge that had some sort of a shield on it, yanks the Google Glass off my face and says “follow me outside immediately,”. “It was quite embarrassing and outside of the theater there were about 5-10 cops and mall cops.” The agents accused him of illegally taping the movie with his Google Glass even though it was off.
Khaalid Walls, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an email that homeland security investigations “briefly interviewed a man suspected of using an electronic recording device to record a film.” Interestingly, this department is also responsible for “combatting piracy and counterfeit goods.” He also said that he spoke to the programmer about his ordeal and how he feels about Glass. He was relieved it all came out fine. For his trouble, the AMC Theater at Easton Town Center offered four free passes to a movie of his choice.

Questions Asked to Programmer About Google Glass Incident
There were some questions asked to the programmer by a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, here below we are listing the questions and response of the programmer to that questions.
Q. Why do you wear glass?
A. Programmer replied to this question that he wear Glass because he like it. There are so many features and so much potential! He also said that there is an app for Glass that is built to watch you while driving and it try to wake you up and give you directions to the closest rest stop. He said that he like Glass because it is based on an open-source system and he feel that it actually gives users a choice.
Q. Why You Wear Google Glass in Movie?
A. Programmer said that he wore Glass, because he think himself as a idiot. He said that he love to take pictures from any device. He got his Glass in November, and was waiting for someone who can make a prescription lens for it, but after sometime he got the prescription at the beginning of January. He said that “I started wearing Glass all the time as my regular glasses. He din’t even thought about pirating movies, he didn’t cross his mind that Glass could be seen as a pirating device.
He commented that “it wasn’t the first time I wore Glass in theater, a week before the incident I was wearing Glass when I saw Saving Mr. Banks, and nobody said anything about it. Even before that I have seen another movie wearing Glass with no issues”. Not only this but AMC employees also asked me “Wow, man! Is that Google Glass? How is it?” and I would always give them a nice review about what it can do.
Q. So now what? Are you angry? What do you want people to understand about your experience?
A. Programmer said,”I am not angry, I just want that people understand the technology deceive properly before using or recommending”. He also passed a statement that, “I would love to have a talk with AMC, movie theater owners and other, and explain them that what Google Glass is? and what it is not?”. He said that as people take camera mobile in theater and switch off their camera in movies, people should also switch off the Glass camera in movie.
Q. What did you think when they took you out of the movie?

A. Programmer said that when he was taken out of the theater, he was thinking that what happened?. In few minutes “agent had my Glass because he snatched it off my face – I started shaking and I was thinking I should call the police”. Out of the theater when they asked me that why I was wearing Google Glass and recording the movie. At the same time, I thought it a misunderstanding by agents, and it should be cleared as soon as possible. He said that, he tried for couple of hours to make agents understand that he was not recording the movie, and convince them to connect Glass to a computer or put it on their face and check. Agents realized that I was not doing anything illegal and they left from here.
Q. Do you think you were profiled?
A. He said that there was no component of profiling, when they took me to the interview room, first thing that I showed them was my driver’s licences and my green card. I said that I wan’t to do anything that could potentially put in danger my chances of citizenship. Finally I can say that they were not profiling, even they could not have known I am an immigrant prior to them snatching me.
Q. What’s next for you and Google Glass?
A. Programmer said next, next is nothing but more efforts to educate people about technology. This education is necessary so that no other person in future being harassed by authorities that are unfamiliar with the technology.
Q. Are you angry with All this?
A. He replied that, initially I thought to find out who that people were and write an angry letter to their supervisor. But I think that with all this press coverage they might be already in trouble. Personally I don’t want them to lose their jobs, I just want them to think more. So I won’t do anything else.
